Traveling is an entirely different experience. You set out with the hopes of meeting new people and making your trip memorable. These are some things to keep in mind when you travel.
1. Travel light
You must pack well when you travel. Make sure to only take what you need, and be comfortable with the weight of your luggage.
2. Meet new people!
This is why you travel. To discover new things, meet new people, and grow as a person. Do not limit your interactions to people you know. Interact with locals and fellow travelers. People want to know your origins. All you have to do to show the world that you are open to new connections is to be curious. You should avoid places like bars, museums, or coffee shops where you can meet new people to have a conversation with. You can bring your book, which you’ve been meaning to read, along if you want to be alone.
3. Know your alcohol limit
You need to know how to manage your alcohol. You don’t want to get too drunk while traveling.
4. Keep your friends updated
It is important to tell at least one person about your travel plans and keep them informed about your adventures. You should be prepared for anything as you travel to new areas. This is especially important if you’re travelling alone.
5. Plan your journey
It’s a different experience to travel without a plan. However, it is worth having a map in your head to help you organize your day. Make sure you have a good knowledge of the area you’re visiting. Do your research. It is important to be familiar with the political and weather conditions in your area.
6. Learn the Laws
Know the basics of the country, including traffic laws. Many countries have very strict laws and even a slight slip can lead to severe consequences.
Know your rights as a tourist, and ensure that no one is taking advantage of you.
7. Local Language Starter Kit
Google Translate has made language barriers virtually disappear in our daily lives. But don’t be too dependent — what happens if we lose our network? You could end up in serious trouble if you say the wrong thing.
You don’t have to be fluent in the language overnight. However, it is important to at least try to understand the most common words and phrases. This will keep you from being conned anyhow, and it will also help you to make friends with locals.
8.Keep Your Documents Safe
This is an important step that I cannot emphasize enough! Keep multiple copies your passport and other documents. One set should be with you at all time, one at your place of stay, one at your country’s embassies, and another with people you trust back home.
Your passport is the most important document that you should have. Anything can happen at any moment. It is your life.
Keep a small notebook in your pocket with emergency numbers for any situation. Your phone may not be able to take notes, but it could happen that your battery dies. Please remember to bring a charger with you!
9. Make sure you get travel insurance
Although it may seem like an extra cost and time consuming, it is well worth it. Before you venture into the unknown, it is essential that you have insurance.
Skiing may cause injury to your leg, or you may need to immediately leave the country because of an earthquake. Anything can happen so it is better to be prepared.
10. Do not Travel by Taxis Only
This is an option. You should not take cabs everywhere. They are much more costly. You will be thankful that you chose public transport such as buses and trains.
Another tip: Avoid eating near touristy areas. These are outrageously expensive. Go to your local touristy area and you will see that even water is a bargain. Tell me what you think, and I will tell you.
